Go by bike to see Udawatta forest

A new program was introduced today to allow tourists visiting the Udawatta Forest Reserve in Kandy to travel by bicycle.

In the first phase of the new program, 10 bicycles will be used and tourists will have the opportunity to visit the Udawatta forest reserve by bicycle.

Nishantha Edirisinghe, the Director General of the Department of Conservation, participating as the chief guest for this event said that efforts are being made to increase the forest population in this country, which has decreased to 29 percent, to 32 percent.

He also emphasized that drone technology will be used to prevent unauthorized acquisition in Sri Lanka’s forest system.

He further said that the law will be enforced strictly on the criminals based on the data obtained by drone technology monitoring and that modern technology will be used to monitor such incidents.
