Garment factory strike heats up Kotmale.

The strike that employees of a private garment factory in Kotmale have started demanding a salary increase of Rs. 5,000 continues for the fifth day.

The garment factory, which employs about 1,080 employees, has been operating for 25 years. Although the employees demanded a salary increase of Rs. 5,000 from the management authority in line with the current cost of living in the country, the employees who are engaged in the protest say that the management authority promised only a salary increase of Rs. 2,000.

Although the officials of the labor office discussed the issue with the management authority, the protesters said that the officials have become a pawn of the management authority. The employees are demanding that the factory be closed down and their demands be met.

Due to the extended strike initiated by the employees of the garment factory, heavy police security has been deployed at the garment factory premises.
