The Judicial Service Commission has granted permission to the currently suspended Kaduwela Magistrate Chanima Wijayabandara to remove her personal belongings from her sealed official chembar tomorrow.
The Judicial Service Commission has taken steps to suspend the service of the Kaduwela Magistrate following a preliminary investigation into several complaints made against her by the Registrar and other officers working at the court.
According to the complaints received regarding 16 case files heard at the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court, those 16 case files have been brought to the Commission and a special investigation has been initiated into them. Based on the facts revealed during the preliminary investigations that some irregularities have occurred in the relevant case files, the Commission has decided to suspend the service of the Magistrate immediately and conduct further investigations.
Sources at the Judicial Service Commission said that a detailed statement on the current situation and the allegations against the magistrate will be issued in the next two days. Meanwhile, the Kaduwela Magistrates’ Court Bar Association will also convene a special meeting to inform all members.
Several cases, including the recently called Yoshitha Rajapaksa and Daisy Forrest case, as well as the case filed regarding the sexual assault of a parliamentary maid, were called before the court.
