Former Member of Parliament R.Duminda Silva and Chaminda Ravi Jayanath who was found guilty in the murder case of Bharata Lakshman Premachandra and sentenced to death by the majority agreement of the Colombo special three-member bench. But they are acquitted from the 17th charge of the case, keeping illegal T-56 firearm.
Colombo High Court Judge Sujeewa Nishanka (13th) informed the defendants that the Supreme Court has acquitted them of the charge of possession, aiding and abetting and conspiracy.
The judge explained to the defendants Chaminda Ravi Jayanath (Dematagoda Chaminda) and Sarath Bandara (S.F. Sarath) that the prison officials had presented to the court that the life sentence imposed on Duminda Silva and other defendants on the same charge on 08.09.2016 is null and void.
