Court orders Yoshitha and Daisy Achchi’s case

The Colombo High Court today (30) ordered that the case filed against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son Yoshitha Rajapaksa and his grandmother Daisy Forrest, who are charged under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, be taken up on July 11.

The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi.

At that time, Senior State Counsel Udara Karunathilaka, appearing for the prosecution, presented a document relevant to the case to the court.

President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis, appearing for the defendant, presented the court with a list of documents and witness statements required to face the trial and requested that they be provided.

The President’s Counsel stated before the court that he needed these documents and witness statements to face a fair trial.

Accordingly, Judge Aditya Patabendige informed the senior state attorney appearing for the prosecution to take steps to provide the defense with the documents and statements contained in the list.

The case was then scheduled to be heard on July 11.
