Bribery Commission investigates Government Medical Officers Association

The Bribery or Corruption Commission has initiated an investigation into an incident in which a room on the Ragama Teaching Hospital premises was rented out to a shop.

The commission has initiated the investigation following a complaint that the Ragama branch of the Government Medical Officers Association has earned money by renting out a room on the hospital premises to an outside party, according to internal hospital sources.

The Ragama branch of the Government Medical Officers Association says it has received a complaint that an herbal medicine shop has been given to the relevant premises under an agreement.

It is said that the relevant premises have been given for a monthly rent of twenty thousand rupees on the basis of an agreement that the hospital will not pay the water and electricity bills.
