National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa has alleged that the Presidential Secretariat has issued a list of 40 politicians to be arrested by the Bribery Commission.
Speaking in a television interview, former Minister Wimal Weerawansa revealed that the list contains the names of politicians from the Mahinda Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickremesinghe regimes.
He further stated that a director of the Bribery Commission regularly visits the Presidential Secretariat to seek advice on the action to be taken regarding the list.
“I am on the list. Kanchana Wijesekera and Ramesh Pathirana are also there. Mahindananda Aluthgamage has already been arrested. These arrests are being made in relation to matters carried out by departments under the purview of the ministry,” he stated.
Stating that the list was prepared after the results of the local government elections in May, he said that the government believes that votes were lost in the election due to the failure to arrest individuals on corruption charges.
Former Minister Weerawansa also revealed that he had been summoned before the Bribery Commission regarding a matter related to his time as the Minister of Housing and Construction.
