Wasantha Samarasinghe, a member of the National People’s Power Executive Council, said that some corrupt excise officers have recently demanded about 20 million rupees for the issuance of licenses for certain liquor stores.
He also mentioned that they have information about the pubs that have issued these licenses and the audio tapes of such corrupt transactions. Addressing a press conference, he said that the officers in question had even refused to issue licenses to those who refused to pay bribes.
“Due to these corrupt transactions, the government has incurred huge losses and we have planned to take action against these excise officials,” he added.
