A complaint has been filed with the Criminal Investigation Department against the Basnayake Nilame of the Kataragama Devalaya.
The Citizens’ Power Against Corruption and Waste, which has filed the complaint, states that the current Basnayake Nilame is unfit for the position and a criminal case has been filed against him.
The organization points out that this person has printed tickets and collected money from devotees coming to Kataragama in order to build a ward at the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital, and that the process is also flawed.
They also say that the treasury of the Kataragama Devalaya should be subjected to a proper audit and that the assets and liabilities of the Basnayake Nilame should also be investigated.
