Malaysia’s Immigration Department has arrested a group that sold Sri Lankan children to Europe using Malaysian international passports. A srilankan married couple has been arrested in this way.
Malaysian National News Agency’s Director of Immigration said that poor Malaysian parents with children under the age of 12 have been used to obtain passports and were arrested recently when they visited the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Headquarters to obtain a Malaysian passport for a Sri Lankan child. General Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said.
Investigations confirmed that they received between €30,000 and €50,000 for every Sri Lankan child taken to Europe on Malaysian passports.
