Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka mentions that former Army Commander Shavendra Silva took advice from him during the events around Parliament after President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa fled to the Maldives on June 09 last year.
Commenting further on this, he said that the former army commander sought advice from him on two occasions, and he gave him advice on each occasion. He further said that it appears that he has acted according to the instructions given by him and that he would follow those measures even though he was the Army Commander at that time.
Government ministers have said on many occasions that former army commander Shavendra Silva’s actions during the struggle have been disapproved by the government and an investigation should be conducted into his actions.
