Dolawatta’s proposal on homosexual acts is in line with the Constitution

Speaker Mahindayapa Abeywardena informed Parliament today that the Supreme Court has ruled that the bill brought to remove homosexual acts from the list of criminal acts is not against the Constitution.

The Speaker said that the Supreme Court is of the opinion that this Bill as a whole or any of its provisions is not against the Constitution, and accordingly the Bill can be passed by a simple majority.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Member of Parliament Premnath C. Dolawatta tabled this bill as a private member’s bill to amend Sections 365 and 365 (A) of the Penal Code. .
