China’s Sinopec cancels Sri Lanka’s QR code.

The Minister of State for Power and Energy, Indika Anuruddha, has announced that the QR fuel quota system will be abolished once the Chinese company Sinopec begins fuel trading in Sri Lanka.

Earlier, the government had announced that three foreign companies would enter the Sri Lankan fuel market in the coming months. Sinopec is scheduled to commence operations in Sri Lanka within the next two months.

According to the Minister of State, the current fuel shortage is due to filling station owners improperly placing fuel orders in anticipation of a price reduction. However, he assured that there will be no future shortage of fuel.
