An explosion in the deep sea could be the reason for the turtle deaths.

The wildlife department says that the turtles found on the beach around the island may have died due to some explosion in the deep sea.

Some of the turtles have died due to severe brain damage and the fact that the surface shell of all the turtles found has been severely blasted has been brought to the attention of the investigators investigating the causes of turtle deaths, said the department.

It is reported that 25 dead turtles and two living turtles were found along the coast from Ja-Ala beach to Panadura, and most of the dead turtles were loggerhead turtles and two green turtles were among them.

Investigations have been started to find out whether the accident happened due to the use of any explosives by the fishermen engaged in fishing activities.
The wildlife department mentions that after presenting the bodies of the turtles to the court, steps will be taken to present the cause of death immediately.
