5000 hectares of land is distributed to plantation workers

Minister of Plantation Industries Ramesh Pathirana says that it is planned to present a ministerial paper regarding the provision of plots of land of 10 perches each for plantation workers. The Minister mentioned this when the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Plantation Industries met.

The minister pointed out that 60,000 of the approximately 250,000 plantation worker families have been given land rights, and 5,000 hectares are required to confirm the land rights for the rest of the families.

Minister Ramesh Pathirana further said that all MPs should come together and discuss with the President to quickly bring the draft law prepared to take over unused land owned by private plantation companies for public purposes.
