A group of Sri Lankans who were arrested by the country’s security forces while trying to enter Australia illegally on a multi-day cruise have been deported from the country.
41 Sri Lankans were included in the arrested group and they were detained in Christmas Island until the legal proceedings were completed and they were sent to Sri Lanka in a special flight this morning (09).
This group arrived at the Katunayake Airport at 9:40 this morning by the flight ASY-013 belonging to Australia, and along with them the Australian security officers handed over the concerned Sri Lankans to the Sri Lankan immigration officials.
It has been revealed that most of them are residents of Jaffna and Walachchena areas.
